Rick Springfield performs for 90 minutes at benefit concert

Thursday, August 29, 2024, marked a significant day in Denver’s philanthropic calendar as “Raise the Ruff,” a charity event for Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary (PSDS), took place at Mission Ballroom, pulling in over 400 attendees who collectively contributed more than $400,000 to the cause. Hosted by a familiar face, Erica Lopez, of 9NEWS, the evening spotlighted a captivating 90-minute performance by entertainer Rick Springfield.

Guests indulged in a cocktail and appetizer soiree, snapped photos with senior pooches, engaged in a silent auction, and later settled down for a sumptuous dinner. The auction boasted items like autographed guitars from Rick Springfield, artisanal pieces from the Firefly Autism Group, and opulent gift baskets teeming with golf passes, deluxe hotel stays, ski vouchers, dining cards, and a trove of entertainment goodies for movie marathons, game nights, poolside bashes, and playthings for the four-legged pals.

Halie Behr, the auctioneer, orchestrated a compelling appeal where guests wielded their paddles, contributing donations ranging from $100 to $10,000. Highlighting the impact of each sum, Behr shed light on the monthly costs of medication, dietary needs, and specialized training programs at PSDS. Medical expenses for residents at PSDS this year ranged from $9,000 to a staggering $20,000 per dog.

Reflecting on the night, PSDS Founder Mary Leprino expressed profound gratitude, “I am overwhelmed by all the support from this wonderful community, our dedicated staff, and volunteers who made this evening so impactful for our senior dogs. I couldn’t be more grateful.”

To cap off the night, Rick Springfield enthralled the audience for 90 minutes, crooning classics like “Jessie’s Girl” and treating the crowd to tunes from his latest album, infused with his signature rockstar fervor. The concert concluded with Springfield leaping offstage, dancing on tables, and filling the air with roses and guitar picks, creating a memorable finale.
