Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) has taken a significant leap into the realm of artificial intelligence by launching Gemini as an assistant within Gmail. This move aligns Google with the growing trend of infusing AI assistants into various applications.

Features of Gemini 1.5 Pro

The Gemini 1.5 Pro model offers a range of capabilities, including summarizing email threads, suggesting responses, assisting in drafting emails, and fetching information from emails within the inbox as well as from Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

Rollout Details

First unveiled at last month’s Google I/O event, the company has commenced the rollout of Gemini this week on web-based Gmail for Rapid Release domains. Scheduled Release domains are set to receive the update starting from July 8. The rollout for the Gmail mobile app will occur gradually over a span of 15 days, beginning on June 24.

Availability

Google Workspace customers can access Gemini through various add-ons, including Gemini Business and Enterprise, Gemini Education and Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium.

Trend Among Tech Giants

Several prominent companies, including Apple (AAPL), Meta (META), and Microsoft (MSFT), have been following the trend of integrating AI assistants into their products. Apple recently announced plans to introduce AI across its entire product line, while Meta has begun deploying its Meta AI assistant on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Microsoft is also integrating its Copilot AI assistant into its vast base of over 1 billion Windows users.

Stock Performance

Following the announcement, Google’s stock edged up approximately 1.5% during afternoon trading on Tuesday.
