Former Microsoft Corp. executive Steven Sinofsky has critiqued the ongoing Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit against Apple Inc. AAPL, branding it as “so weird.”
Sinofsky’s Critique: Sinofsky shared his thoughts on the lawsuit, stating that it is more about ideology and politics rather than legal or business matters.
“It is not just weak but also built on ahistoric tales of the past,” Sinofsky expressed.
Sinofsky expressed dismay at the DOJ quoting the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
“It is terrible to quote Jobs, knowing he cannot be deposed. Terrible,” he lamented.
Additionally, Sinofsky criticized what he perceives as the DOJ’s lack of understanding of technology and the smartphone industry’s dynamics.
In its filing, the DOJ highlighted a 2010 discussion where Jobs discussed strategies to further entrench customers within Apple’s ecosystem, emphasizing the lock-in tactic.
Repercussions: The DOJ’s lawsuit against Apple has sparked extensive debate. Apple responded by asserting that it threatens the company’s core values and innovation capabilities.
Moreover, the lawsuit implicated Apple for impeding the success of major companies like Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp., and HTC.
Conversely, Tesla Inc. supporter Ross Gerber has questioned the lawsuit’s validity and timing, insinuating that it predominantly revolves around financial motives.
