Renowned investor Warren Buffett’s backed Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, BYD Co Ltd (BYDDF, BYDDY), has unveiled the world’s first vehicle-mounted drone at its headquarters in Shenzhen. The innovative drone is a result of collaboration with tech company DJI.

The pioneering unmanned aircraft system has been integrated into an automotive-grade drone bay and boasts the capability to take off and land with a single click. Its advanced features include high-definition, high-frame, and low-latency image transmission, enabling it to effectively capture aerial footage during a road trip.

Mounted on a Yangwang U8, the drone also incorporates automatic battery swapping and charging management, enhancing user convenience and experience.

At the Dream Day 2024 event, BYD also disclosed its plan to invest ¥5 billion ($0.7 billion) in establishing the world’s first all-terrain professional test drive sites across Chinese cities. This initiative aims to facilitate EV testing on various terrains, thereby persuading potential customers before their purchase.

By manufacturing both plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEV), BYD outperformed rival EV maker Tesla and claimed the title of the world’s largest BEV seller in the fourth quarter of 2023.

This development indicates BYD’s strategic focus on bolstering customer confidence and providing a comprehensive and immersive experience in a market segment that is increasingly competitive and innovative.

It also marks a significant step forward in the convergence of automotive and technology sectors, reflecting the dynamic nature of modern transportation and mobility solutions.
